First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS! You may not realize this, and I didn't at first, but you are now cool! :) But all jokes aside, you should be proud of your many accomplishments that have led to your admittance to this prestigous institution!
Here's a few things I think you should know before becoming a Hurricane:
1. Academics come first! With all that is going on, sometimes we forget why we are in college. Remember that your reason for being here is to learn, so your books should be a top priority!

BAM Fashion Show
United Black Student's Black Awareness Month has been a success so far!!! Last Friday was our annual fashion show "Footprints on the Run." Even though we had a few technical difficulties at first, I have been getting nothing but positive feedback.

The success of the Black Awareness Month events remind me why I like being involved so much. Student leadership is not easy, not always fun, and definitely guaranteed to drain you of a lot of your energy and time, however seeing your programs implemented successfully makes it all worth it in the end:)

Committed to U
Its that time again... Student Government Elections.
As a freshman last year, I watched as my mentor and a few people I looked up to ran for Student Government. It was exciting for me to see them win, as I was super involved in high-school and knew how important student leadership and making a difference on campus.
This semester, I have been given the great opportunity to get involved with Student Government by helping my friends on their ticket "Committed to U." I am somewhat nervous, because I do not know what to expect. However, this could be my foot in the door for involvement with SG.

Some of our platform includes extended hours in the dining hall, a Zip-car service (cheap on-campus rental car service for students 18+), and additional commuter parking. Hopefully all of these can be implemented before the end of next school year. I have faith that it will work out because my team is amazing, and we are all "Committed to U!!!" :)

Ill keep you posted...get it??- lame joke I know :)

Get It Together!
Okay, so over this past weekend I have realized a few things, I need to get my life together. lol. It sounds funny, but it is so true.
I have realized that:
1. I have been having a lot of fun, but I need to study more from now so it doesn't pile up on me later. Last semester was the most successful one for me. I had the highest GPA of my college career and got the most out of my student involvement. Although, I have been semi-focused, I need to make sure that I uphold my scholastics, the sole reason I am here at UM for.
2. I need to be more consistent with my blog. I agreed to blog for the University to help give future students a better understanding of a regular student's college life. Even though I have been super-busy, I see that I need to make a point to write more frequently than I have been. This blogs helps you learn more about me, while allowing me to realize what areas I need improving on.
More life changing thoughts to come :)....

My China Bistro
For those of you who know me, my favorite thing is FOOD! From being a child, I always had a special place in my heart for cuisine :). I would watch the cooking shows and try to put together some gourmet dish that usually didnt end up so gourmet (even though my mother would smile and say it was good)!
After a long week, I'd have to say my favorite place to eat in Miami is a restaurant called P.F. Changs. It is a pretty affordable restaurant with an expensive taste (a China Bistro as they call it). Usually on Fridays, my friends and I will go to the one in the Falls Mall, and see a movie or something after. I love the cafeteria food, but we all know you get tired of it eventually...so why not SPICE IT UP!
I must warn you though, eating out is an expensive habit! Make sure you are leaving money to last you throughout the week or even the semester. P.F. Changs will not taste so good if you cannot afford to eat for the days following.
